Empowering Local Media

Internews has been working in Sri Lanka since 2005, providing information services to vulnerable communities and delivering training to both established journalists and young trainees. Internews works closely with local organisations and the Government to harness the power of media and information to help people develop a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka.

Southern reporters learn photojournalism

Internews’ media house in Matara held a three-day training for southern provincial reporters on photojournalism from 28 to 30 June. Twelve journalists and four young trainee journalists received training from Mr. Sri Lal Gomes, Pictures Editor at The Island newspaper and Divaina Daily, and Mr. Asantha Abeyrathne, Layout designer from Lakbima newspaper.

Participants received training on framing, lighting, photo editing, and how to take photos with news value.  Training included both lectures at the Matara Media House and hands-on field training outside the classroom, giving participants the opportunity to immediately put into practice what they learned.
