Sixty orphaned children from Vavuniya have been brought to Colombo on an educational visit. The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau plans to train more youths in the north by establishing training centres there. The last group of 304 IDPs living in Batticaloa has been taken to Trincomalee and are being kept in transit camps until they are resettled.

Sixty orphans from Vavuniya visit Parliament, the zoo and museums in Colombo
A group of IDP orphans have been brought to Colombo on a visit by First Lady, Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
The children, who are aged between three and 15, will be cared for by Kathirgamar Thondar Sabai while they are in the capital.
The children will be taken to several places in Colombo including the Parliament, zoo, museum and other places of importance, according to President, Kathirgamar Thondar Sabai, Mr. S. T. R. Arulanandam.
SLBFE to establish training centres in the north
The Sri Lanka Bureau for Foreign Employment (SLBFE) is to establish training centres in the north.
Media Secretary, Foreign Employment Promotions and Welfare Ministry, Mr. Sarath Dambawinna said: “We have already established training centres in the east a few months ago. Many youths got job opportunities in foreign countries after being trained.”
He added: “Ministry officials are planning to meet the Jaffna Government Agent and other government officials to discuss the establishment of training centres and a regional office. We hope we could start our new office in Jaffna within two weeks.”
Last remaining IDPs in Batticaloa taken to Trincomalee
The last 97 IDP families remaining in Kokkuvil camp, Batticaloa have been taken back to Trincomalee. The IDPs were displaced from Trincomalee in 2006.
Muthur Divisional Secretary, Nagiah Selvanayagam told Lifeline: “A total of 304 persons from 97 families were brought to Trincomalee and are now being kept in transitional camps in Kiliveddi and Paddiththidal. They will be resettled in Ralkuli, Pallikkudiyiruppu and Veeramanagar. Land has been allocated for this purpose and we have plans to resettle them by December.”
